Tradeshows: Is the PCBC a Leading Indicator for building recovery?

Elk 004Scott, Marion and I returned from the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) in San Franciso pleasantly surpised.  Our tradeshow experience this year has been disappointing at best.  As everyone in this industry who has been to a show this year knows, traffic is anemic, and no one is buying.  So, while keeping our commitment to attend this show, we decided to go “guerilla marketing” and come up with a less expensive tradeshow booth while focusing only on a few of our products.  It was also important to us that we continuted to have a strikingly attractive display to present East Teak in the manner in which we have always revered our brand.  This plan allowed us to save a significant amount of money while still keeping our show visibility.

If the PCBC show is a leading indicator, then the California building market is on the road to recovery.  We experienced an unexpected steady flow of traffic every day, and I’m glad our friends at Titan Wood were there to help us talk to people.  Not only was the traffic steady, but there were buyers walking about, buyers with projects.  How encouraging!

We also met the nice folks from Buildaroo.com.  They are a California-based startup company with the mission of making buying and building green fun and easy.  They were at PCBC shooting green product videos, and came by our booth to shoot a product feature for us.  Not withstanding my meager “reality show” unscripted abilities, you can get a good idea of some of the products that we had on display:

I’m now very excited to be showing our “green” products at Greenbuild in Phoenix in November.  Come see us!
